Drake dropped three new albums this year, plus a deluxe version of one of them. So why is Charlamagne Tha God saying he's "kind of stopped making music"? On the most recent episode of his Brilliant Idiots podcast with Andrew Schulz, he had to explain his assessment, which led to some pretty interesting results.
The context for the conversation was Charlamagne and Schulz talking about rappers getting older, commenting on how long the now-40-year-old Drizzy has been in the game. Producer Taylor Hayes said he differs from other aging MCs such as Jay-Z because he hasn't stopped making music, despite Hov being significantly older.
That's when the Breakfast Club host said the 6ix God has "kind of stopped making music," a statement Schulz and Hayes immediately ridiculed in the wake of the ICEMAN trilogy. Then, Charlamagne challenged them to name three songs off the three projects, and Hayes said he was missing the point.
Schulz didn't take the challenge seriously, whereas Hayes named "Janice STFU" and said she didn't listen to all the projects. "That's kind of crazy," Charlamagne Tha God replied, seemingly feeling vindicated. Hayes mentioned "GIMME A HUG" (off the 2025 PARTYNEXTDOOR collab album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U). When Schulz sang "Shabang," Charlamagne mistakenly said that was from "Janice STFU."
He also applied the same challenge to J. Cole and his new album The Fall-Off, but this eventually led him to seemingly contradict part of his original sentiment. Charlamagne Tha God said the only thing that matters is for artists to connect with the fans who love them. In theory, this means not knowing three songs from the new Drake albums shouldn't be a factor.
Charlamagne Tha God On Drake
Charlamagne Tha God's frequent criticisms of Drake often get him in hot water with OVO fans. But it's clear he wants to feed into that engagement and continue trolling, as he's just sharing his opinion.
Charlamagne Tha God's also spoken about Drake's preferred validation, arguing it comes more from Internet praise than awards like the Grammys. It makes comments like these more bizarre, as the hype around his music is wholly undeniable.
