JAY-Z is currently in the news as he is going to be performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show in February. However, he is also making headlines thanks to a letter he wrote for Lil Durk as the Chicago artist preparing for a bond hearing on November 4.
With Durk's VICAR trial almost a year away, he is looking to get his freedom back. He was already found not guilty on five charges, including murder-for-hire. Therefore, he believes he should be at least granted bail until his next trial.
JAY-Z appears to agree with this. In his letter to the judge, Hov speaks on Durk's character and how he has become a faith-based individual.
"I met Durk several years ago. He was kind, respectful and focused on his career," Jay-Z wrote. "He approached his work with seriousness and discipline. He was also genuinely curious about deepening his spirituality, and he spoke about faith as something he wanted to grow in, not something he wore for show."

Furthermore, JAY-Z stated that Durk has done a lot for his community. Hov has a deep admiration for this, and understands what it is like to help those who are marginalized.
"What stood out most to me was how he used his success. Durk was signing young artists from his community to recording contracts and giving them a real path into a legitimate industry," Hov continued. "Many of us come from neighborhoods where the options are limited and the risks are high. Durk understood that, and he worked to help others find a way out of those conditions rather than leaving them behind."
Whether or not this letter ends up giving Durk his freedom is something that still remains to be seen. Regardless, the fact remains that Durk could be out of jail as of next week. If that happens, we will be here to document it.
