Stephen A. Smith found himself in a bit of controversy last week as it was reported that he attended a dinner at the White House with President Donald Trump. Bill Maher and Kid Rock also attended the dinner, adding to the controversial nature of the dinner.
Smith has been on a political arc over the last few years. He is constantly a guest on Hannity over on Fox News. Furthermore, he consistently finds himself talking about politics on his own platforms. He's even been on Real Time With Bill Maher a few times.
Given his position as a sports commentator, some have expressed disappointment with Smith's desire to engage in conservative politics. On his show over the weekend, Smith addressed this disappointment, stating that he won't back away from a conversation with anyone.
Stephen A. Smith Continues His Political Arc
“By not trying to talk to one another, by not trying to have a conversation, it’s foolish, it’s childish, and I’m not gonna do that," Stephen A. Smith said.
He subsequently went on to brag that Trump has already invited him back to the White House. Furthermore, he claimed that Maher and Trump hashed things out during the dinner, and disagreed on several issues for hours.
Regardless of what Smith is saying, it is clear that he wants to get closer to these political figures. He has always been an ambitious person, especially when it comes to his standing as the host of First Take. Smith even floated running for President someday.
You can't help but feel as though his desire to run for office isn't also fueling his desire to rub elbows with the President of the United States. Either way, it's jarring to see.
