Stephen A. Smith has been dipping his toes into politics over the last few years, to varying degrees of success. In fact, he recently had dinner with Bill Maher and Donald Trump at the White House.
For the most part, Smith appears to have Republican politics. However, he fancies himself as a moderate Democrat. Last night, the Democrats had themselves a blue tsunami as they took back the House and the Senate. There is even a chance they win the Senate race in Mississippi, which felt impossible just a few months ago.
As part of his midterm coverage, Stephen A. Smith sat down with right-wing podcaster Patrick Bet David. During their conversation, Smith spoke on the hurdles that keep him from ever running for President. Just a few moments later, he made the claim he could win.
"If I were to win the presidency and had to give up what I’m doing to run the country, would I do it? Sure," Smith said. "But I’m not going to do it to campaign. I’m not gonna give up everything on a maybe. I wish that I could, because I believe that I could win.”
Stephen A. Smith Would Run As A Democrat
Smith then went on to say that to many of his friends, he comes across as a Conservative Democrat. Smith acknowledged this to be true, as he is a free market capitalist who enjoys strong borders and safe streets.
“You told me I’m the most conservative Democrat you have ever met, and I’m here to tell you you’re probably right. I do believe in a safety net," Smith continued. "But I am about free market capitalism, I am about strong borders, I am about strong national security, I am about a strong economy, and I am about safety in the streets. Come hell or high water, I’m that guy.”
Whether or not Smith ever ends up running for President remains to be seen. At this point, it is unlikely.
