Ilya Salmanzadeh recently offered some insight into an Ariana Grande smash hit which was actually meant for JAY-Z and Beyonce.

JAY-Z and Beyoncé's 2018 album Everything Is Love was a hit amongst fans. There were some dope songs on the tracklist, and some wonder if another Carters project is in the cards.

According to songwriter Ilya Salmanzadeh, there is a famous Ariana Grande song which almost appeared on Everything Is Love. During an interview with Ross Golan on And The Writer Is..., Salmanzadeh admits that "God Is A Woman" was originally written with Hov and Bey in mind. However, after a writing session with Grande, it became clear that this would be her song.

“It didn’t happen,” Ilya said matter-of-factly. In case you are unaware, "God Is A Woman" was a smash hit in 2018, and it appeared on Grande's album Sweetener. Furthermore, it hit number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. It's also currently four times platinum.

JAY-Z & Beyonce Almost Had God Is A Woman"

“When we started again with Ari, we were thinking maybe it could be her singing the chorus, and we’d get a rap feature, but then when she heard the song, she was like, ‘No, we're writing this for me.’ I was like, ‘Okay, fine.’ She just wrote all the verses and the pre-chorus and all those crazy harmonies that are in there. She did it all that day," Salmanzadeh explained.

While the song turned out to be perfect for Grande, you cannot help but wonder what this song would have sounded like in JAY-Z and Beyoncé's hands. It's one of those "what if" scenarios fans love to speculate about.

That said, Grande did suit the track, and it will forever be hers.
