The Air Jordan 4028 "Black/Barely Volt" is officially heading to retail. It releases tomorrow, October 2nd through SNKRS and select retailers for $200, it also has the style code IR2084-001.
This design first made waves on court during Bam Adebayo's 83-point game back in March. It brings back the black and bright green color mix tied to the Air Jordan XX8, which originally debuted in 2013.
A zippered shroud covers most of the upper, keeping the shoe almost entirely black when fully closed. Opening it up reveals Barely Volt underneath, bringing a much bigger pop of color into the design.
Jordan Brand also updated the cushioning setup for this model. Full-length Zoom Strobel sits stacked over full-length ZoomX foam, while internal straps add extra support through the upper. A herringbone outsole pattern rounds out the build for traction.
Metallic silver detailing also makes an appearance, rounding out the shoe's full color story alongside the black and volt base. It's a small touch, but one that adds a bit of extra shine to an otherwise moody colorway.
Air Jordan 4028 “Black/Barely Volt”
The Air Jordan 4028 takes its name from blending two different numbered models together, pulling design cues from both the Air Jordan 40 and the XX8. That combination gives the shoe a distinct identity compared to a standard numbered release.
Leaning on the XX8's shroud design connects this pair to one of the more experimental eras of Jordan Brand's performance line. The XX8 was known for pushing unconventional ideas, and bringing that zippered cover back fits right into that same spirit.
Having real on-court history behind the colorway only adds to this release. A performance moment like Adebayo's 83-point game gives this release a great story, rather than just existing as a color update.
With updated cushioning and a bold design built on real history, the Air Jordan 4028 should stand out as one of the more interesting performance releases this fall.
