Kendrick Lamar remains one of hip-hop's biggest artists, and fans have been waiting for him to drop. His last album was 2024's GNX, and since that time, there have been rumblings that he has something else on the horizon.
Given all of the sneak-dissing Drake did on ICEMAN and FOMO, listeners are curious if Lamar will clap back. Others simply want to see where his artistic development has taken him. The jump between GNX and Mr. Morale was stark. He went from big concepts to something much more straightforward and catchy. One has to wonder what he will attempt with the next album.
Meanwhile, on stream last night, DJ Akademiks offered up a prediction. He believes the Compton rapper is going to drop at the end of this year, or early next year. Akademiks doesn't have any insiders feeding him this information. Instead, he is going off a hunch.
When Is Kendrick Lamar Dropping?
Kendrick Lamar has always played coy about his releases. You don't hear about them until the day of release, or just a couple of weeks before. That said, don't expect any big announcements anytime soon.
With GNX, Kendrick Lamar dropped a teaser on YouTube, and then came through with his album just a few minutes later. It was one of the greatest strokes of genius in recent history, especially given his big win following the Drake beef.
Going into October, there aren't a ton of new albums dropping. Labels are slashing their budgets, and it has created an environment where Lamar could easily come in and take all of the attention for himself.
For fans, a new album would be a best-case scenario. That said, Kendrick has gone five years between albums before, so don't get ahead of yourself just yet.
