A rare unreleased sample is making the rounds, giving fans a fresh look at Virgil Abloh's work on the Air Jordan 1. This "Black/Lightning" pair is reportedly one of only three known samples from 2018. Samples surfacing from that time period are legendary.
Black leather and mesh panels make up most of the upper, paired with bright yellow accents across the toe, Swoosh, and heel. That combination gives the shoe a much bolder look compared to the officially released "Chicago," "UNC," and "White" colorways from the same era.
Off-White's signature deconstructed details remain fully intact here. A zip-tie sits on the lace area, translucent detailing wraps parts of the upper, and "AIR" branding runs along the midsole in Abloh's usual Helvetica lettering.
Since this pair never made it past the sample stage, there's no retail price or release history attached. Sightings like this stay limited to collectors, auction houses, or rare public reveals. For now, we will just have to admire this pair from afar. There's almost no chance it ever releases publicly.
