Coi Leray Says She And Benzino Are Finally In A Better Place

Motherhood has given Coi Leray a different way of looking at one of the most complicated relationships in her life. After years of public arguments and moments when she wanted nothing to do with Benzino, she says she and her father are finally in a better place.

During a new appearance on The Jason Lee Show, Leray said they speak regularly now, with much of that contact revolving around her daughter, Miyoco. According to Complex, Benzino FaceTimes nearly every other day to see his granddaughter, who calls him “pop pop.”

“Me and my dad are really cool now. Like, I love him so much,” Leray said. Watching him become a grandfather has meant something to her because she did not grow up with that kind of relationship with her own grandparents. She added that the timing feels right for them to rebuild because she can have conversations with him now that she could not have handled the same way years ago.

Becoming the primary provider for her own family also changed how she understands parts of Benzino’s life. Leray said she can now see him as a man in his 60s who built himself up, lost much of what he had, and lived through his own successes and failures. That perspective has not erased what happened between them. “We forgive, we just don’t forget,” she said.

Their relationship had been especially fractured publicly. Leray famously referenced being let down by her father on 2021’s “No More Parties,” and tension grew again after Benzino prematurely revealed Nicki Minaj’s involvement on “Blick Blick.” By May 2024, Leray wrote that she had not spoken to him in more than a year and wanted no connection to his interviews or public decisions.

Part of their reconciliation involved addressing that pattern directly. Leray told Lee that she asked Benzino to stop discussing their relationship publicly, and he apologized. “I’m sorry, you’re right, I’m sorry,” she recalled him telling her. The two agreed that whatever happens between them should stay between them rather than becoming another social media debate.

That boundary carries more weight now that Miyoco is involved. Late last year, Benzino said publicly that he had not yet met his granddaughter. That has since changed, and Leray says seeing her daughter light up when her grandfather calls has helped soften some of the distance that remained between them.
