It’s been a wild run for Kanye West in 2026 as he attempts to repair his public image after years of self-sabotage. BULLY wasn’t the comeback album that he expected, but perhaps it was a starting point for a much longer journey to regaining acceptance from mainstream America. And that might even be a bit more difficult for him in the near future as he prepares to perform in Russia in October.
According to All Hip Hop, the upcoming shows in St. Petersburg carry serious weight as he’s on pace to be the biggest artist from the Western world to perform in Russia since the invasion of Ukraine. He isn’t the first–Lil Pump, Flo Rida, and Jason Derulo have paid visits to the country for performances.
He’s scheduled to perform on October 11th and 12th at the Gazprom Arena, and tickets sold out rather quickly. Within a few hours, the most expensive tickets, priced at roughly $1,850, had been snapped up while the cheaper tickets running for roughly $105 sold out the evening they went on sale, the Guardian reports.
Russian Politicians Pressure Kanye West
Despite the demand, there’s some pushback against his presence from within Russia. There are conservatives who hope to cut off the influence of the Western world. On top of that, supporting Nazism itself is a crime that can lead to severe prison time. And while Kanye’s performance can provide some semblance of positive PR in the midst of sanctions and boycotts, there are politicians who are calling for an investigation into Ye’s comments about Nazis. Politician Nikolay Novichkov ultimately said that the shows should be cancelled unless Kanye publicly shows “moral support for Russia and the special military operation” in Ukraine.
We will keep you posted on any further updates surrounding Kanye West.
