The Nike Kobe 8 Protro "Mambacurial" now has a confirmed release date. It's set to drop September 19th for $200. The pair will be available through Nike, select retailers, and the SNKRS app.
This marks the first-ever Protro version of the "Mambacurial" colorway. The original released back in 2013 and quickly became a fan favorite within the Kobe 8 lineup. For collectors who missed it over a decade ago, this is finally a real shot at owning it.
Magenta and pink dominate the upper, fading into a bright green Nike Swoosh across the toe. That same green carries down into the translucent outsole, giving the pair a glow-in-the-dark look under certain lighting. Black detailing wraps the heel and midsole, grounding the brighter tones on top.
A large "NIKE" wordmark also runs across the lateral side in bold white lettering. It's a standout detail that adds some graphic punch against the gradient base, keeping the design from feeling too soft despite the bright color palette.
September has quietly become a strong month for Kobe releases in recent years. Landing the Mambacurial drop here keeps that pattern going, giving collectors another reason to circle their calendars this fall.
Nike Kobe 8 Protro “Mambacurial”
The Mambacurial name comes directly from Kobe's lifelong connection to soccer. Growing up partly in Italy, he developed a deep appreciation for the sport that carried into several of his Nike releases over the years.
The original colorway pulled inspiration from Nike's Mercurial Vapor cleat line, known for its bright, high-visibility color schemes. That soccer-driven design language is what gives this Kobe 8 its unmistakable look.
As a Protro release, the shoe also updates the cushioning setup. The original Lunarlon foam is swapped for a more modern React build underfoot, bringing the classic silhouette in line with today's performance standards.
With soccer's global spotlight only growing, the timing behind this release still feels appropriate. For longtime Kobe collectors, the Mambacurial name alone is enough to make this one of the year's most anticipated Protro drops.
