Whether or not he gets credit for it, Lil Durk is one of the most consistent rappers working. Since 2011, he's been releasing music at a steady clip, often putting out more than one project a year, not to mention a handful of loose tracks. In 2017, he's already put out Love Songs For The Streets and Supa Vultures with Lil Reese, and he's announced Signed To The Street 3 is on its way. Before we hear that, Durk has shared a brand new standalone track "Make It Out," which he premiered on XXL today. The Will-A-Fool-produced track finds Durk delivering the melancholic street rap he's known for, but there's a strong glimmer of hope in his rhymes. As someone who's found success through music, Durk urges those caught in the street life to hold their heads up and persevere through their circumstances.
In an interview with Paper Magazine earlier this year, Durk spoke of violence in Chicago and his efforts to put a stop to it. "There are kids who are really lost," he said. "I can't help everybody, but if I can help anybody I will do it. I mean if you're involved with the kids it shouldn't matter where you go. I've been speaking to sick kids and I can really get through to them. If I've got ideas that I can bring to different artists, basketball players, football players, then I really want to be a part of it. It's a whole movement, we need to stop the violence."
Lil Durk's Signed To The Streets was released in 2013, and remains one of his most beloved projects. The sequel was released in 2014. Young Chop, who contributed to both projects, including the popular single "Bang Bros," has confirmed he will be working on Signed To The Streets 3.
Last year, Durk released his highly underrated sophomore album Lil Durk 2x. The project featured guest appearances from Future, Young Thug, Ty Dolla $ign, Yo Gotti, and DeJ Loaf. Listen to it here.
Durk was recently spotted in the studio with Detroit rapper Tee Grizzley, before that he was said to be working with Young Thug and Future. In May, he called Future "the modern day 2pac for the world," which caused conversation on Twitter.
I get so high I put these drugs
Into my system
I love you with all my heart
Ain't no problem
You chose your life over your son
That shit killed him
I never asked you for anything
Just your honesty
How you trade on me like that?
I'm your family
And she tried to chase a bag
For an athlete
But two wrongs don't make it right
Get with your dog and make it right
