Jermaine Dupri isn't the only artists PETA has recently tapped to join their ways. According to Page Six, PETA has sent a letter to Aretha Franklin's niece (who is now in charge of her estate since her death) asking for her famous fur coats to be donated to those in need. Tracy Reiman, who is the executive president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, wrote Sabrina Garret Owens the following letter.
“In the past, we’ve given donated fur coats—some coming from other wonderful women…to homeless shelters in the U.S. (including in Detroit) and to displaced refugees in Afghanistan, Mongolia, and Syria. By donating Aretha Franklin’s fur coats to PETA, her family could expand her legacy of social justice to animals. While we can’t bring back the animals who suffered and died for them, these coats can help others by providing some much-needed warmth to orphaned animals and humans in desperate need.”
PETA has previously gotten their hands on furs by Mariah Carey, Kim Cattrall, Mary Tyler Moore, Sharon Osbourne and more. Aretha's open-casket memorial takes place in Detroit on August 30th.
