The film is gearing up to be one of the most anticipated anime releases this year.

Batman Ninja's initial Japanese trailer was first unearthed in December of last year; however, the film is slated to infiltrate the North American market with the release of the film's official English language trailer. In it, viewers get a first-glimpse at Bane, and are given a partial explanation as to why the narrative has transported from the traditional Gotham City landscape into feudal Japan.

Batman and a mix of well-known Gotham City residents are snatched from their original playing grounds by Gorilla Grodd's time displacement machine. The villains who are similarly uprooted alongside the Caped Crusader take on the guise of the feudal lords who preside over the divided land.

The Joker is the antagonist who takes charge of the opposing faction embroiled in a civil war. A DC press release reveals a different kind of struggle for Gotham City's finest, noting how "as his traditional high-tech weaponry is exhausted almost immediately, Batman must rely on his intellect and his allies — including Catwoman and the extended Bat-family — to restore order to the land, and return to present-day Gotham City."

Batman Ninja is a collaboration between anime masterminds including Kazuki Nakashima, Jumpei Mizusaki and Takashi Okazaki, forming a tri-headed Hydra of sorts.

The film will be released digitally on April 24, with a Blue-ray and DVD copy coming in retailers on May 8. Peep the trailer below:
