Tuesday night, Cardi B tweeted and quickly deleted that she was put in a choke hold by an NYPD officer. Her boyfriend, Migos rapper Offset, has now shared his perspective on the incident in a short interview with TMZ. He explained that Cardi called him shortly after she was forcefully restrained by the cop.
"At first when she called I didn't think she was being serious," he said. "[There were] two other people fighting, and they ain't touch the dudes who were fighting, they touched her. So I don't understand what's going on."
Offset didn't have too many details to share, but he was skeptical of the cops in general. "I don't know what happened, but I know you can't stop the police -- the police kill people everyday and get away with it," he said.
Later on, the rapper was asked about whether or not he believed that there's a special unit dedicated to policing rappers. "Hip-hop police? Oh yeah, they're real for sure," he said, but didn't venture too far into the subject. "I don't know, I can't talk about the police, I don't know what they got going on."
So far, Cardi's only comment on the incident is her initial tweets. “I can’t believe this cop put me on a choke hole just now shit is crazy these NY cops don’t know how to do they job FUCK 12,” she wrote, before confirming to a fan that the officer was white. In happier news, Cardi's single "Bodak Yellow" reached its peak at No. 2 on the Hot 100 last week. It's very possible that the song could top the charts next week, dethroning Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do." Cardi released the official remix with Kodak Black, whose track "No Flockin" inspired the flow on the hit, earlier this week.
Cardi B and Offset are expected to collaborate on Migos' upcoming album Culture 2. The album is currently without a release date, but Quavo has taken a page out of the group's breakout hit "Versace," and instructed fans to "wait on it."
