Big K.R.I.T has some pearls of wisdom to share with all aspiring producers and artists out there on "How To Make A Beat."

We had the pleasure of sitting down with the one and only Big K.R.I.T to help us delve into the minute details of how a producer of his skill and experience goes about making a beat. As a producer, building their own unique sound through instrumentals is a personal journey that, no matter what stage of your career, is an evolving process that requires a lot of trial and error. That being said, K.R.I.T is here to help take some of the guesswork out of this complex profession within the music industry

One of the first tips the veteran rapper/producer had was to immerse yourself in the sound of whatever project you're working on. "Find you the biggest speakers you can," he suggests. "If you don't, put your headphones on and try to zone out." Another underrated aspect of the beatmaking process might be how distracted artists can get in the studio, so his message to them was simple: "turn your phone off so you can focus."

Big K.R.I.T also speaks about the difference between starting with a sample-based idea versus something that will be completely from scratch. If you're planning on using a sample, he suggests getting really up into whatever old-school track you might be pulling from and be super familiar with its different elements (oh, and definitely clear your samples properly). If you're not a sampling type of person, then K.R.I.T puts forth the notion that starting with the melody is key. "Pianos are great for getting the first idea out," he added.

Check out all of the tips that Big K.R.I.T has to share on the subject of making beats, many of which you'll be able to use in your daily routine if you're into making music. Make sure you also subscribe to HNHH TV for more great video content.
