Ever since the debut of his album Everybody earlier this year, Logic has become one of rap's biggest positive vibe spreaders. His performance of the track "1-800-273-8255" at the VMA's further cemented his status as an artist who has a vested interest in helping his fans conquer some struggles that may not necessarily be visible to the naked eye of the outside world. Now, he has joined the likes of Metallica, Halsey and other popular names from the world of music to lend his name to a new radio campaign that will focus on the issue of mental health awareness.
According to Rolling Stone, the campaign will be called I'm Listening and feature additional assists from Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic, Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos, Alice in Chains' William DuVall, Bleachers' Jack Antonoff, Khalid, Disturbed's David Draiman, country star Gary Allan and Phantogram's Sarah Barthel. Organized by media entity Entercom, the effort will include a two-hour radio special that is to air live from Seattle on World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10th, at 10 a.m. East Coast time on every single Entercom platform. Seattle-based radio DJ BJ Shea, who holds down hosting duties at KISW FM, will also host the special.
In a recent interview for the campaign, Logic spoke about how his song "1-800-273-8255," which uses the real phone number for the National Suicide Prevention Hotline as its title, came after a tour where he met many fans who told him that his music and message behind the lyrics had been a tremendous help to them. "It's just so hard to fathom that, because I'm just like, a guy who raps," Logic explained. "And I had to ask myself, 'If I saved your life, but I wasn't even trying, could you imagine possibly all the people I could effect if I actually tried and I made, not only one song, but an entire album?'"
"Depression, coupled with other factors, can be lethal," added Novoselic via a statement. "Mental health conditions are underrated and I'm pleased to be part of the I'm Listening campaign to help educate the community." The aforementioned special will feature artists sharing personal stories of how they've dealt with mental health issues and overcome those obstacles in life.
