Charlamagne Tha God says he believes that hip-hop is currently in a "great place." He reflected on the state of the genre during a recent interview on Million Dollaz Worth of Game alongside his Breakfast Club co-host, DJ Envy. In making his case, Charlamagne listed off a number of artists he loves who are currently releasing music. As for his favorite artist in the game, he gave Kodak Black the top spot.

“I think Hip Hop is in a great place,” Charlamagne said during the interview. “I think people that don’t like hip-hop now are just mad that it’s not what it used to be. They’re stuck in an era. I love all these new dudes. My favorite dude is Kodak Black right now. I love LaRussell, I love Symba. I love Rhapsody, I love fucking 21 Savage.”

DJ Envy then added that things are better for the artists on the business side now than during previous eras as well. “I love it not only for that, musically the music is great. I love the fact that these brothers get money," he said. "They’re keeping themselves out of the hood, they’re paying for their families. Paying for their mama’s cribs and all that.”

As hosts of The Breakfast Club, both Charlamagne and DJ Envy have been inducted into the Radio Hall Of Fame. Despite their historic success together, along with Angela Yee, DJ Envy also revealed that he initially didn't want to work with Charlamagne. “I remember even when they brought Charlamagne in I didn’t wanna work with him,” Envy explained. “I’m like this n***a got fired six times.” Charlamagne then interjected to correct his co-host with, “Four.” Envy continued: “Whatever it was, I’m like, ‘You want me to work with this n***a?’ At the time I had two kids, I’m like, ‘No!’”
