With the news of Frank Ocean coming out of the closet, Ocean's name has been all over the internet as of late. The New York Times did a profile on the R&B singer at just the right time, taking a closer look into Frank Ocean's music and past.
Frank Ocean will be releasing his debut album Channel Orange on July 17th, and he discusses the sound and the content of the highly anticipated project with the NY Times.
Ocean revealed that he had a song with Nas, which has been lost due to technological mishaps, called "No Such Thing as White Jesus." The singer recited some lyrics from the song:
Whatever you do, young king, don’t wind up dead
Young queen, cross your legs,
Put a crown on your head and remove the chains
’Cause even diamond chains are for slaves,
Don’t set foot in no penitentiary
And don’t taste the poison
Don’t you bail on your families
On his songwriting, Ocean says, "I wouldn’t do it all if there wasn’t that catharsis. It’s definitely an extension of my talk therapy."
And on the success he's received thus far: "When I did have some success, it further emboldens you to be like, 'No, I’m just going to write what I feel I should write.'"
