Netflix is ending the year with a surprise new thriller series called "The OA." Watch the trailer here.

Earlier today, it looked like Netflix's Twitter account was being hacked, as the company consecutively tweeted a few creepy-ass questions, such as "Have you seen death?" and "Have you seen darkness?" The next tweet was a video of a woman sprinting through traffic across a bridge, about to leap off, and then, the follow-up video shows her letting go of the railings and beginning her descent. Pretty sketchy stuff, Netflix...

But it turns out that those alarming video clips are part of a newly unveiled series: "The OA." The woman who plummeted from the bridge is Britt Marling, the lead actress in said series. After the cryptic tweets, Netflix announced that the full first season of "The OA" will be premiering on Friday (!), even though the show was nowhere to be found when Netflix shared its December release schedule. With the announcement, Netflix shared the official trailer for "The OA" as well as another cryptic message: "Trust the unknown."

There are many questions to be asked upon watching the trailer, though it appears that the premise of the show is a girl (Marling) returning to her hometown after having disappeared for seven years. What's more intriguing is that she was seemingly blind when she first went missing but somehow has regained her vision upon her return. The series is directed by Zal Batmanglij, who previously worked with Marling on the 2013 film "The East."

Get ready to binge on "The OA" this Friday, December 16.
