National Avocado Day was a disaster for the restaurant.

National Avocado Day was meant to be a joyous celebration for Chipotle and its customers, but the company failed to deliver on the hype they created earlier this week. A faulty app blocked customers from benefitting from a promotion and an Ohio location caused two customers to fall ill. To top it all off, the concerns with food safety prompted a very noticeable 6% dip in their stock, putting an extra damper on the festivities, as reported by CNN Money.

The company had announced that fans of Chipotle's guacamole could get a free dose this July 31 for National Avocado day. There was a lot of hype surrounding the gift with purchase. To many's dismay, the app that would allow customers to redeem their free guacamole proved to be completely useless. Twitter users shared their disappointment.

Sickness was piled onto the unpleasant situation. Customers who visited one of the chain's Ohio locations became ill from their dining experience. The restaurant has been shut down as a precaution, though it might be reopened later today. Chipotle is most likely trying to avoid the type of debacle they faced when they caused the biggest E. Coli outbreak in 2015 with 60 cases of ill customers. Ultimately, today was a fail for the chain.
