Extra security will be in place for the controversial rapper's performance, according to a rep at the Mayor's Office of Philadelphia.

Tekashi 6ix9ine's performance at Jay-Z's Made In America will have extra security in place, according to TMZ. A rep at the Mayor's Office of Philadelphia has told the publication that event producers are doing everything they can to make the event safe for everyone, which includes "pouring a significantly heavier detail" into 6ix9ine's performance specifically. According to sources, extra security was not requested by the rapper himself, but rather the organizers of the event.

Earlier this month, it was reported that shots were fired on the set of 6ix9ine's video shoot with 50 Cent. Sources close to 6ix9ine said they did not believe that he or any of the other rappers on set were the targets of the shooting.

According to Nicki Minaj, 6ix9ine was not "approved" to perform at Monday night's VMAs with her. "I wanted him to perform with me at the VMAs and somewhere along the line he didn't get approved to perform by the powers that be," she said on her Queen Radio show. "I don't want anyone to think for a second that I wouldn't invite him to perform his hit record. I want everyone to know my character. I really fought... When I know somebody there's nothing you can tell me about them."

It is unclear exactly why 6ix9ine was not permitted to do the VMAs, though it could be due to his felony charges for "use of a child in a sexual performance," for which he pleaded guilty in 2015.

Made In America Fest will take place over Labor Day Weekend in Philadelphia. Kendrick Lamar was recently added to the lineup, where he joins Meek Mill, 6lack, Ty Dolla $ignRich The Kid, Janelle Monáe, and headliners, Nicki Minaj and Post Malone.
