The showgoers were warned of the weather issues.

Backstreet Boys were forced to cancel their sold-out show in Thackerville, Oklahoma. A strong storm took over the location and caused major damage. When the outdoor venue was hit by the turbulent weather, the storm's intensity knocked over a metal entrance structure causing many of the show's attendees to be injured. At least 14 of the concertgoers were hospitalized.

Fans were informed about the dangerous weather but many ignored the organizes warning and remained at the location despite the lightning that prompted the concerns. The winds are said to have sped up to 70-80mph.

Backstreet Boys issued a statement concerning the event's cancelation.

"We never want to put our fans in harm’s way and with tonight’s weather and the injuries from earlier, we have decided to cancel the show and will attempt to reschedule. The most important thing is for everyone to get home safely and we will see you all very soon!"

Kevin Richardson, one of the group's members, took to Twitter to reassure their fans about the possibility of their show being rescheduled.

"Unfortunately, due to damage sustained in the storm earlier this evening, we are unable to perform the show tonight. Safety is always #1. Keep your tickets because Backstreet WILL BE BACK."
