DJ Kay Slay's forged his mini-empire when his Streetsweeper was changing hands in the NY streets. The mixtape boom wasn't native to New York City, but the frantic pace of the city makes it all the more difficult to earn a living, hawking tapes.
Small-time hustlers like Kay Slay came of age before our eyes. After establishing his brand the same way Nino Brown emblazoned his baggies with a neat little logo, Kay Slay leveraged his Streetsweeper status into a career as a NY radio mogul, specializing in spot-duty curation - admittedly with a focus on the rap music resonating in the NY streets.
In 2019, Kay Slay doesn't keep with the jones with the same tireless work ethic. With his staying power set in stone for another half-century, Kay Slay is better suited to a mentorship role opposite nu-skool practitioners like Moneybagg Yo and Dave East.
