You might remember the Quincy Jones's interview with Vulture that sent the Internet into a frenzy. In the interview, the famed record producer let it be known that he wasn't a fan of the music made by the iconic band that sprung Paul McCartney and his peers to fame, The Beatles. He was quoted saying they were “no-playing motherfuckers...the worst musicians in the world” and criticized McCartney's skill as a bassist dubbing him “the worst bass player I ever heard.” In the pages of the latest GQ magazine featuring the Brit on its cover, McCartney recalls thinking Jones was 'totally out of his tree.'
McCartney told the magazine that Jones claims never to have made such remarks and courteously called the knighted musician to smooth relations. "So he rang me, and I’m at home on my own. And I’d finished work, so I had a drink, and now I’m grooving at home, I’m cooking, I’ve got a little bit of wine going, I’m in a good mood, and I don’t give a shit," he shared. "So I get a phone call: ‘Is this Mr. McCartney?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Quincy would like to speak with you.’ Because he’s always worked through security guys," he continued. "I said, ‘Hey, Quince!’ ‘Paul, how you doing, man?’ ‘I’m doing great—how are you, you motherfucker!’ I’m just jiving with him. ‘Paul, I didn’t really say that thing—I don’t know what happened, man. I never said that. You know I love you guys!’." He later revealed, "So actually we just had a laugh. And he was like, ‘Oh, Paul, you know I love you so much.’ ‘Yeah, I know you do, Quince.’”
It seems that all is well between the two icons after all.
