Kitti Jones, one of the women who came forward with allegations against her ex-boyfriend R. Kelly, opened up about how she copes with the aftermath of the abuse she has endured.
Jones feels as though she bears some responsibility for the women who went through a similar experience as she did. She thinks her coming forward sooner could've prevented some of the incidents.
“The other girls that have been abused, victims of his in the last couple of years, if I had spoken up a little sooner maybe that would never have happened to them. I think I was maybe a little bit more mature than some of the other girls, I had an established career and connections and people I could have reached out to when I got back. But I just wasn’t strong enough. He had broke me all the way down.”
Kiti Jones tells her story in her book I Was Someone Before This, which is set to be fashioned into a Lifetime Movie biopic. Jones shared the one thing that helped her get out of her abusive relationship with R. Kelly.
“Have that one person that you trust, that you can tell some of these things to. Because if something God forbid happens to you when you’re taking those beatings or getting starved—whatever may happen to you when you’re having that experience with him—someone else knows what’s happening. That’s pretty much what saved me.”
