As reported by NBC News, a lone gunman walked into a yoga studio in Tallahassee, Florida on Friday evening and opened fire. Six victims in Hot Yoga were shot, and another victim was pistol-whipped. Two of the victims who were shot have passed away, and the gunman allegedly turned the gun on himself before authorities could get to him. Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo claims that several people tried to stop the shooter during the massacre. "There are indications that several people inside fought back, and tried to not only save themselves but other people," DeLeo stated. The Polie Chief also stated that the gunman has been identified, but his name has yet to be released to the media. Authorities are attempting to find a connection between the shooter and any of the victims.
Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, who is running for governor, tweeted in support of local law enforcement after the attack. "I’m deeply appreciative of law enforcement's quick response to the shooting at the yoga facility in Tallahassee today," he wrote. "No act of gun violence is acceptable. I'm in close communication with law enforcement officials and will be returning to Tallahassee tonight."
