There's a belief that Cousin Stizz is overlooked, but isn't that generally the case of an artist taking up shop outside a major U.S. market, or one traditionally associated with hip hop. Stizzy's new EP is essentially a teething toy for his greatest fans, myself included. "Shop" the EP's opener is crafted by Tee-WaTT & Lil Rich, two men who've been kept busy by recent mandates, WaTT on Mac Miller's Swimming and Rich on YG's Stay Dangerous, liaisons which demonstrate an upward trajectory.
As per usual, Cousin Stizz uses spare language to great effect, allowing you to forget for a moment that "Shop" is inherently another song about a nickel bag going into circulation. But in his mind, to describe "the grind" is to lose all "weightiness," or the ever-present possibility of change. The hustle dynamic is interchangeable through language.
