It’s about to be a busy end of the year for Statik Selektah, not just because his solo album, Expensive Taste, is due out next week, but now, he and 2 Chainz will be connecting for a new project. This week, they announced Playaz Only Live Once, due out on December 4th. Statik Selektah will handle the entire production on the project, so we’ll be fortunate enough to hear 2 Chainz over soulful, sample-driven production. 2 Chainz previously teased a few features on the project, including Lil Wayne, Cee-Lo Green, Mary J. Blige, and Westside Gunn.
The two have shared a few samples of what’s to come on Playaz Only Live Once. Today, they dropped off “A Week In Paris,” a smooth and sultry record that samples “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” by Ye. Additionally, they connected with Young Nudy and Cash Cobain on “Reign” in September and dropped off “Pops” in April.
While Chainz has been incredibly active over the years, this album will mark his first solo venture since leaving Def Jam. Back in 2022, he released Dope Don’t Sell Itself. Since then, he dropped off a sequel to his joint project with Lil Wayne, connected with Larry June and The Alchemist on Life Is Beautiful, and dished out a soundtrack for his short film, Red Clay, including appearances from Ne-Yo, Lil Yachty, NBA Youngboy, and Ronald Isley and the Isley Brothers.
2 Chainz & Statik Selektah Announce New Album
We’re excited to hear what 2 Chainz will cook up with Statik Selektah on this upcoming body of work, especially since his recent efforts since 2022 have revealed another side to his artistry.
Surely, we’ll be hearing more from Chainz and Statik Selektah before the album drops. Expensive Taste boasts 21 songs in total with an impressive list of features, from Freddie Gibbs, Ab-Soul, Raekwon, Westside Gunn, Joey Bada$$, Busta Rhymes, and more. Chainz and Statik Selektah will also connect on “No Time Soon.”
