The Breakfast Club host wants the two men to resolve their issues, but questions Kaepernick’s framing of the situation.

Charlamagne Tha God is weighing in on the tension between Colin Kaepernick and Jay-Z. While he would like to see the two get on the same page, he isn’t fully sold on how the former NFL quarterback is discussing their fallout. During an appearance on The Pivot, Charlamagne suggested Kaepernick may be “disingenuous” when addressing the situation. As highlighted in a clip shared by The Jasmine Brand, the radio personality made clear that he doesn’t want to see either man caught up in a public feud. Still, his comments show he has questions about Kaepernick’s side of the story.

The tension goes back to Jay-Z’s decision to partner with the NFL in 2019. Through Roc Nation, the rapper became involved in the league’s entertainment programming, including the Super Bowl, and social justice initiatives. The move faced backlash given Kaepernick’s absence from the league following his protests against police brutality and racial injustice. Jay’s comment that “we’ve moved past kneeling” added to the controversy.

The disagreement resurfaced this summer after Jay-Z delivered a freestyle that appeared to reference Kaepernick’s settlement with the NFL. Kaepernick later addressed their relationship while promoting his memoir, The Perilous Fight, and criticized the rapper’s decision to work with the league. He also described a conversation in which he told Jay he strongly disagreed with the partnership.

Charlamagne’s take adds another voice to a debate that has followed both men for years. His position leaves room for reconciliation, even as he questions how Kaepernick is presenting the conflict. Whether a conversation between the two could settle those differences remains an open question.
