Lil Durk and his family have been through a lot over the past few years. Just five years ago, the rapper's older brother D-Thang was killed. A few years later, Durk was arrested and charged with murder-for-hire. He has since beaten that case and awaits a separate VICAR trial in California.
Throughout all of this, Durk's mom, LaShawnda Woodard, has been dealt a heavy emotional toll. Recently, she sat down with Amber Grimes on If You Knew Better, where she spoke about her 2021 book, 7220, and everything that has happened these past few years. It was here that Woodard heartbreakingly took the blame for Durk's situation, as well as D-Thang's death.
“I feel like everything that has happened is my fault," Woodard said tearfully. "I blame myself for everything that’s happening. I blame myself for my son getting killed, and I blame myself for my son being locked up."
Woodard subsequently went on to say that despite everything, she needs to be strong for her kids. With Durk in the midst of a legal situation, she just wants to be there for him, no matter what.

“I try to show up the best I can. You know, now with different situations that’s going on, I try to blank out my pain and like be there for them and be strong for them," Woodard explained. “I know for a fact this popped up because if I would listen to my mom then on what to do and how to do it, how to move, how to go finish school, how to get your career going so that you can get out of the neighborhood that we living in, which is 7220."
Elsewhere in the interview, Woodard spoke about surviving sexual assault. She is currently a speaker at various high schools, where she talks about her experiences. Moreover, she attempts to connect with these young women so that they can get the help they need.
