2014 may have been a terrible year for hip-hop in terms of record sales, but don't let the numbers fool you into thinking the year was uneventful. In this case, the numbers most definitely do lie. The following news stories were among the most popular that HNHH had to offer over the past 12 months, sequenced chronologically. Love her or hate her, there’s no denying the success that Iggy Azalea had in 2014. With 2015 right around the corner, Iggy will look to carry over that success into the new year by releasing her sophomore album, and embarking on her first ever stadium tour. Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Iggy revealed that she has a new tour in the works for 2015 called “The Great Escape Tour”, which she hints as being “somewhat relatable” to her sophomore album title. “I like the idea of me being kind of a musical escape artist for people,” Iggy says.

Back in 2011, Iggy Azalea and A$AP Rocky were rumored to be dating. At some point during their relationship, Iggy thought it'd be a cool idea to tattoo his and hers album titles on her fingers, getting "The New Classic" on her right hand and "Live Love A$AP" on her left, After they broke up, Iggy decided to put a big black "X" through the word "A$AP" last year, and now it looks as if she's had that part removed entirely.

By now, it's no secret that streaming giant Spotify has eclipsed nearly every other comparable service in its field, so its new list of the "top" (or most popular) music of the year is probably one of the best gauges of America's listening habits that we have. Including categories for male and female artists, albums and songs, the list includes several artists from the hip-hop/R&B world (alright, mostly the R&B one). Check out the lists below.

    J. Cole is going a unique route with his upcoming album 2014 Forest Hills Drive. He's shying away from traditional promo and album campaign, instead getting the fans directly involved by hosting a listening session at his childhood home (which the LP is named after) and inviting fans to come through. He's also not dropping any singles leading up to the December 9th release date.

The AMAs had a pretty stacked cast of performers this year, with a pretty wide range of pop, R&B, and rap performances. Lil Wayne debuted a brand new song from the Carter V, which featured the newly Cash Money-signed singer (and Weezy's rumored girlfriend for a time) Christina Millian. Elsewhere, Nicki Minaj delivered the first full televised performance of "Bed Of Lies", which she teased during her hosting gig at the AMAs, while Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea did their best to reel in their "Booty" performance for the primetime crowd.

Eminem's compilation album Shady XV isn't supposed to be dropping until November 24th, but you know how things go on the internet, everything tends to arrive a tad early. Apparently Em isn't exempt from this general rule, and with album leaks circulating, fans (and blogs) have noticed a diss (of sorts) towards Iggy Azalea. The line in question appears on the Bad Meets Evil record "Vegas" off Shady XV's first disc.

Following the release of T.I.’s last two somewhat lackluster albums, 2010's No Mercy and 2012's Trouble Man, combined with the rise of new age rap stars like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Meek Mill, and the fact that ten-year plus veterans like Lil Wayne and Kanye West are continuing to inch closer and closer to icon status with every project they drop, T.I.’s standing in hip hop's hierarchy has been met with some uncertainty.
