Police in Florida reportedly arrested a South Florida conman, Justin Jackson, back in May for posing as a manager for big time music stars and using his "status" to get free stuff from other celebrities.
For example, Jackson posed as Adele's manager and conned NBA players Paul George and Victor Oladipo, as well as former NBA star Richard Hamilton, into giving him free sneakers for a fake charity.
According to the Miami Herald, Jackson also attempted to swindle other high profile NBA players like Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony, who are both under the Jordan Brand umbrella.
He allegedly used email to act as Adele's manager, as well as the manager of soccer star Lionel Messi, in order to receive other gifts.
According to the Miami Herald, the arrest warrant states Jackson,
"Offered Adele concert tickets in exchange for sneakers from basketball players Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook, and Bismack Biyombo, among others, purportedly for an auction to benefit charities. He succeeded in getting sneakers shipped to him from NBA stars Paul George, Victor Oladipo and Richard Hamilton."
"Created a fake e-mail for the manager of soccer superstar Lionel Messi, in an effort to “add a layer of verisimilitude” to his request to get sneakers from NBA stars."
"Asked representatives for music stars Chris Brown, Tory Lanez and Katy Pery if the singers would make birthday videos for a “dear friend.” The requests didn’t work."
"Got tickets to attend – and go backstage – at a concert for the rapper Fabolous. He also tried, apparently unsuccessfully, to get tickets to attend shows by Lauryn Hill and Carrie Underwood."
The Miami Herald reports that Jackson served two years in Florida prison after posing as a rep for Madonna and conning a New York boutique into loaning him $2.4 million jewelry in 2007, which he later sold to a South Florida pawn shop.
He and his wife were arrested after a sting operated by Miami-Dade police, when the two tried to get free tickets to Kendrick Lamar’s Rolling Loud hip-hop festival on May 6th.
