G.O.O.D. Producer Evian Christ Sheds Light On Kanye West's Upcoming Album

You may not recognize the name Evian Christ, although you probably should as he's a producer signed to G.O.O.D. music and part of Ye's Very G.O.O.D. Beats production team. He's also responsible for one of our favorite Yeezus cuts, "I'm In It." So it's safe to say he probably knows what's up with Kanye West's forthcoming new album, which we have scarce details on at the moment (although we do know he postponed his Australian tour until September to work on said LP).

Producer Christ recently delivered his EP Waterfall, and he had an interview with self-titled magazine where he gives us a brief glimpse at Yeezy's new album.

While Christ is probably best known for working with Kanye West, that's not to say other big MCs haven't come calling. He's been approached by Rick Ross, Drake and Tyga, all of whom have mulled over his production. Rozay ultimately declined on taking the beat for Mastermind. As Christ says, 

"[Artists] hit up guys like me because they’re partly invested in this idea of being progressive and cool and this resurgence of independent producers. When it comes down to picking 10 songs for an album, they’re always going to go with the Pharrell hook that’s produced by Dr. Luke, not some weird six-minute jam that I’ve made. It’s hard to close out these records.

"Kanye is the one dude who’s like, ‘This is not experimental enough. This is too poppy. Make something else.’ The other guys are like, ‘We don’t get it.’ Kanye is a dream to work with. No one else gives you that level of creative freedom. When he wants you to work to a blueprint, the blueprint is: ‘Don’t make a rap beat. Anything but a rap beat.’"

At the end of the interview the UK native reveals, "I’ve got to get home and write an Otis Redding–style beat for him. He e-mailed last night. He wants something that sounds a bit like Otis Redding, a bit like Mobb Deep." 

Following the interview going live though, Christ tweeted a warning, "these articles wtf only ye knows what next record is gonna sound like. i dunno. i just send beats. honestly, dont read too much into it."

Kanye West's DJ Mano also tweeted giving us an indication that Ye's next album will sound nothing like Yeezus: "All u producers making beats like the yeezus album should stop. We not on that. Moving forward!"
