Luke Cage Event

Marvel's Luke Cage is paying homage to Pete Rock & CL Smooth's cultural imprint.

Not only has the Luke Cage trailer seen the light of the day, but news has surfaced that every episode will be named in honor of Pete Rock & CL Smooth songs. The show already borrows heavily from hip hop at large and is centered in the hip hop bedrock of Harlem. the trailer for season 2 is set to Eric B. and Rakim's I Ain't No Joke. The hip hop interpolations seem to be a pet project for the show runners. Last season they enlisted Method Man in a cameo role. In the eleventh episode he passes Cage in a convenience store on his way to another errand. Also depicted in the show, is an iconic photo of Biggie, inside of Cottonmouth's nightclub. There is also a performance by Jidenna in the fifth episode, and the score was co-produced by Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest and Adrian Younge. There's a whole lot of hip hop for nostalgic fans to get giddy over.

The first season saw show producer Cheo Hodari Coker pay homage to Gang Starr in the similar fashion. The episode list has yet to be released. Keep it locked and peep the trailer before you get your walk on.
