Pop star, actor, and dancer Justin Timberlake is set to return to headline the Super Bowl Halftime show at Super Bowl 52 in 2018, marking his third time performing following appearances in 2002 and 2004, and making him the entertainer without the most performances at the show. This will also mark his return since that controversial Super Bowl performance in ’04 alongside Janet Jackson when Jackson suffered an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction at the hands of JT himself.

“Leading up to Super Bowl LII, fans may visit Pepsi.com for behind-the-scenes looks into Timberlake's journey to the Pepsi Super Bowl LII Halftime Show, as well as other surprises along the way,” The NFL stated in an official release.

"The Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show is the most-watched musical event of the year," the league went on to add. "Last year's show was the most-watched musical event of all-time across all platforms and the most-watched Super Bowl Halftime performance in history through broadcast and digital channels, reaching more than 150 million unique people, garnering more than 80 million views and totaling 260 million minutes watched."

It was in a skit with Jimmy Fallon that Timberlake confirmed things on his end as they two flipped the use of the word halftime for a brief announcement.

While he was already on the list, Justin finds himself in great company of past performers who have graced our screens during the Super Bowl Halftime show. These include the likes of Prince, Bruno Mars, Beyoncé, and Lady Gaga.

Now with a few factors in play, including that fateful malfunction, the current protests of the NFL on both ends as it relates to kneeling and the treatment of African-American players, Twitter has had a slew of opinions on the choice. Check out a few of them below.
