A Carl's Jr employee is being lauded for the aid he and his colleagues provided to a victim involved in Tuesday's YouTube shooting. Michael Finney was working a shift as a supervisor at the burger joint when Nasim Aghdam perpetrated the shooting at YouTube's headquarters nearby.
Three people were wounded before Aghdam eventually killed herself just as police arrived to investigate the scene. She had previously criticized the company after her videos were allegedly censored or removed from YouTube.
A woman who was shot in the leg was able to escape the building and enter into the aforementioned Carl's Jr restaurant down the street. Speaking with San Jose Mercury News, Finney admits that "I was trying to stay calm and see what I could do. Everyone was shocked," once he spotted the wounded individual stumbling into his restaurant.
He and some fellow employees then tried to use the woman's sweatshirt and some rubber bands to create a makeshift tourniquet to control the blood flowing out of the lesion, but eventually resorted to some green bungee cord in order to prevent further hemorrhaging.
Finney admits that he tried his best to stay professional during the incident. A surgeon from the San Francisco General Hospital reveals how the three victims of the shooting included a 36 year-old man in critical condition, a 32 year-old woman in serious condition, and a 27 year-old woman who is being treated for minor trauma.
