Monica and C-Murder have been through thick and thin, but their relationships haven’t lasted through the storms.

Monica and C-Murder have a long history together that dates all the way back to the late ‘90s. Since they inevitably went their separate ways in 2003, the singer has had two longstanding relationships. However, even though she had the opportunity of a life with C-Murder pried from her hands, she never forgot about him. It’s been over a decade since the rapper was sentenced to life in prison, but Monica maintained contact with him over the years.

Following a recent announcement from Monica, it seems the two rekindled their romance somewhere along the line. For a time, their love must have transcended even the walls of prison. Unfortunately, it ultimately came to an end, and Monica has split with C-Murder a second time. From their first meeting in the ‘90s to their recent separation, here’s a timeline of Monica and C-Murder’s relationship.

Late 90s: Monica & C-Murder Meet

Although the exact year remains unclear, the pair first crossed paths in the late ‘90s. At the time, Monica was a fast-rising R&B sensation. Likewise, C-Murder, the younger brother of Master P, was making waves in the Hip Hop community. The music industry, which often brings together artists from different genres, served as the backdrop for their initial connection. In fact, Foxy Brown, a mutual friend of the two burgeoning artists, introduced them to each other.

2000 – 2002: Love In The Limelight

After their introduction, Monica and C-Murder took a liking to each other and hit it off as friends. Subsequently, in 2000, Monica’s then-boyfriend Jarvis Weems committed suicide in front of her. That incident marked a dark period in her life, but she eventually got on the path of healing. Later in 2000, she began dating C-Murder. As both Monica and C-Murder enjoyed success in their respective careers, their relationship became a focal point for fans and the media. Moreover, their high-profile status contributed to the scrutiny that surrounded their love story, making it a topic that came up in entertainment circles often. While they didn’t know it at the time, these might have been their best years as a couple. What came afterward completely changed the dynamic of their relationship.

One of the most significant chapters in Monica and C-Murder’s relationship unfolded against the backdrop of legal troubles. C-Murder faced a highly publicized trial for second-degree murder. This was in connection to a nightclub shooting in 2002. The legal proceedings eventually cast a shadow over the couple’s relationship, and they ultimately broke up.

2009: C-Miller’s Sentence

Following their separation in 2003, Monica got into a relationship with Rodney “Rocko” Hill. She eventually got married to him in 2007, and by 2008, welcomed the second of their two children. Her relationship with Rocko eventually ended but she’s since shared with VIBE that they “don’t have any hard feelings towards one another.” Contrarily, C-Murder’s life had slowed down significantly since the legal proceedings began in 2003. After many years, the murder trial began on August 10, 2009. On August 14, 2009, C-Murder was sentenced to mandatory life imprisonment.

2022: A Rekindled Romance?

After C-Murder’s sentence, many years went by without the media casting light on their relationship. However, in 2020, Monica began a quest to prove his innocence and free him. She even successfully recruited Kim Kardashian to help with her cause of freeing the rapper. Before this event, Monica had finalized her divorce from her second ex-husband Shannon Brown in 2019. As such, many fans speculated that she started dating C-Murder after the divorce. Fast forward to April 2022, Monica visited C-Murder in prison, and took pictures with him that made rounds on the internet. The dating rumors got even louder, but there was never any confirmation from either party.

2023: Monica Moves On

On October 24, 2023, Monica announced via an Instagram post that she had a new man in the person of Anthony Wilson. This revelation quelled some of the rumors of a romance between her and C-Murder. However, it seems that fans may have been on the mark all along. Just over a month after going public with her new man, Monica shared another interesting piece of information.

Over the weekend, she made a public appearance with Anthony Wilson at Nelly’s Black & White Ball. As videos from the event made their way to social media, some fans expressed their surprise at her new romance. In response, Monica dropped a comment on one of the Instagram posts. “Well, here it is in short! I got my heartbroken (again) and that's ok! I learned yet another valuable lesson! I went through it, got over it, now I can laugh about it,” she wrote. In conclusion, she stated, “Life continues! I feel great that through it, he has representation to one day be free! Let's move forward!”
