Wu-Tang Clan are pretty much the epitome of a legend, like the lone shogun assassins they so-often sample in some of their classic joints. And like said assassins, each member of the Wu is capable of wielding lyrical swords. While they may have been prime warriors in during their peak years, the men of the Wu-Tang Clan are still formidable figures, embracing veteran status with a name that still carries weight. Despite a bit of a dark period which ultimately led to a bit of a shitshow with the notorious Martin Skhreli, the Clan is taking things back to basics with the release of their upcoming The Saga Continues.
The project, which is set to drop on October 13th, already delivered the Redman assisted single "People Say," produced by longtime Wu associate Mathematics. And as you could probably expect from the Wu, everything about this joint is golden era hip-hop, from the sampled instrumental, to the stripped down drums, to the punchline-laden sixteens from Method Man, Raekwon, Redman, Inspectah Deck, and Masta Killah. It's a dope track, and while it might not come close to the Clan's best material, it remains a sold return to form nevertheless.
The visuals find the Wu warriors transporting a mysterious box, a la the briefcase in Pulp Fiction. Marked only by the Wu Tang insignia, Mathematics describes the box as follows: “The Wu box is the secret to Wu’s energy. It’s sacred but at the same time we want to share it so we give it out piece by piece. But there’s always someone who wants to take too much for their own selfish reasons. All of that transpires in the video.”
Perhaps the lost Shkreli album resides within the box, passed along to those deemed worthy. Who knows? Either way, stay tuned for some new Wu, coming soon.
