Rapper DMX has officially been granted the green light to travel for a series of shows this fall.
It was earlier this month that X was ordered to wear an ankle bracelet and placed under a strict house arrest that prohibited him from so much as stepping outside to mow his own lawn.
Most recently, his attorney, Murray Richman wrote a letter to the court, requesting that DMX be granted the ability to travel in order to perform at select shows in Atlanta, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles.
Now the New York Daily News reports that while they faced opposition from X’s probation officer, that request has been granted—on one condition.
DMX, born Earl Simmons, will have to be accompanied by a sober coach at all times in order to travel. It was Manhattan Federal Judge Jed Rakoff who initially placed Simmons on house arrest, and mandated that all requests to travel had to be submitted at least one week in advance.
While one request to head to Atlanta this week for a BET appearance was denied because of short notice, X will be headed to the Southern capital city between the dates of August 21-24 with his sober coach in accompaniment.
"We're ecstatic about the court's decision giving Mr. Simmons the opportunity to perform and continue his career," said Richman of the ruling.
DMX was initially placed on house arrest after violating the bail conditions in his tax evasion case when he tested positive for weed and cocaine, and decided to leave the state of New York without properly notifying the courts ahead of time.
His attorney, Richman, submitted these new travel requests with the suggestion of a sober coach, informing the court that in order to provide for his fifteen children, DMX would have to travel for his live shows to maintain a stream of income.
Currently, X is facing charges after allegedly evading $1.7 million in income taxes, and was released on a bond of $500,000 on July 14th after pleading not guilty.
When traveling, the Ruff Ryders icon will also have to foot the bill of his 24-hour sober coach.
