"But Stan, why are you so mad?"

Slim Shady has been officially immortalized within the English language canon. By now, everyone reading hip-hop media publications is well aware of the term "Stan." If you're not, it derives from Eminem's 2000 track of the same name, in which the titular character becomes consumed by his fanatical obsession with Slim, culminating in the tragic murder of his pregnant girlfriend. Nowadays, "Stan" is thrown around in hip-hop discourse, often in an insulting manner to suggest proverbial dick-riding or heavy bias.

Behold, the OED's glorious definition for "Stan" as provided by their website: "an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity." And there you have it. It's crazy to think that Eminem continues to influence the culture, even in these unconventional ways.
