Excerpts from Lil Wayne's jail memoir "Gone 'Til November" have already revealed a multitude of fascinating insights into his lifestyle on Riker's Island. At one point, he officiated a same-sex wedding between two other inmates. The latest excerpt, which arrived this morning courtesy of Rolling Stone, is the most shocking one to date. Wayne reveals that, during a contemplative moment he had in his cell after eating a Ruffles burrito, he realized he was in closer proximity to suicide than ever before:
"I ended up thinking about all types of shit. One thing that stood out was how I've never been this close to suicide before. It's truly a new reality for me. I was actually there when this kid that was in mental isolation tried to hang up. What's really fucked up is that it all could've been prevented if the [correctional officers] would've just brought him some water."
He continued that it took him a while to process the incident because “jail desensitizes a lot of things.” He would later reference suicidal thoughts of his own in Solange's song "Mad." “And when I attempted suicide, I didn’t die," he rapped, "I remember how mad I was on that day/Man, you gotta let it go before it get up in the way/Let it go, let it go.”
