The blown traveling violation on Russell Westbrook isn't the only controversy coming out of last night's Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.
Following Oklahoma City's road victory over the Warriors, Chris Broussard asked the Thunder's Steven Adams what it was like to chase Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson around the perimeter all night.
Adams (22), who played his college ball at Pittsburgh but is a New Zealand native, chose his words poorly- describing the Splash Brothers as 'quick little monkeys.'
He later issued an apology, citing his cultural background as a cause for the slip up. It's pretty obvious the dude had no idea the implications of his words, just a very unfortunate, cringeworthy mistake.
“It was just a poor choice of words, mate,” Adams told USA TODAY Sports. “I wasn’t thinking straight. I didn’t know it was going to upset anyone, but I’m truly sorry. It was just a poor choice of words. I was just trying to express how difficult it was chasing those guys around.”
“It’s just different, mate,” he said. “Different words, different expressions, and stuff like that. But they obviously can be taken differently, depending on which country you’re in. I’m assimilating, mate, still trying to figure out the boundaries. But I definitely overstepped them tonight.”
