While Taylor Swift's 1989 takeover of the charts continues, many of our r'n'b and hip-hop artists have been pushed down. Teyana Taylor actually finds herself the highest-up, debuting at #19, with her G.O.O.D. album VII. The album made a solid enough debut, moving 16,000 copies opening week, while Azealia Banks followed further behind with her own debut album Broke With Expensive Taste. Although Azealia dropped the album out of nowhere, with little to no prior promotion, she managed to sell just over 11k. Perhaps her often controversial twitter antics were enough headlines in and of themselves. There's another recent release we have to discuss which you won't find below, because it sold so little-- Theophilus London's Vibes. Theophilus London made sure to promote Vibes hard, he did multiple interviews before the fact, and he made sure everyone knew Kanye West executive produced it. In fact, if you don't know anything about Theophilus London, you probably still know Ye executive produced his LP. It seems like that co-sign wasn't enough to carry the album, though. Vibes sold only 2,718 copies opening week-- that's a number comparable to Angel Haze's dismal debut with Dirty Gold, but Haze didn't have the power of Ye backing her, and she dropped it at an inconvenient time, if you'll recall. Are these sales a sign of Theophilus' indie/underground appeal, or do they reflect on a failed artistic endeavor? Think on it while you check out the rest of the sales from this past week.
1) Teyana Taylor— VII: After a career setback or two, Teyana Taylor has finally found a home with G.O.O.D. Music and dropped off her debut album VII. The album wasn’t too promo-heavy, but still debuted at a respectable #19. The r’n’b singer sold 16,000 copies opening week.
2) T.I.— Paperwork: Tip drops right below Teyana Taylor this week, coming in at #20 after charting for three weeks. The album sold another 15,776 copies this week, with total sales up to 122,603.
3) Azealia Banks—Broke With Expensive Taste: The oft-controversial Azealia Banks delivered her long-delayed debut album the other week, to the surprise of everyone. Her surprise release nabbed her a debut at #30, and managed to sell more than the heavily-promoted Theophilus London, moving 11,165 copies opening week.
4) Chris Brown— X: Breezy was sitting at #48 last week but dropped down to #52 this week, selling another 7,801 copies. The total sales for his album X have reached 260,862.
5) Joe Budden— Some Love Lost EP: ¼ of Slaughterhouse, Joe Budden, makes his Billboard 200 debut this week at #56 with his new EP Some Love Lost. Budden managed to sell under 10k, with 7,695 units picked up opening week.
6) Logic— Under Pressure: Logic’s debut album Under Pressure continues its descent, dropping from #31 to #73, after charting for three weeks. The Def Jam rapper sold 5,747 copies this week, with his total sales climbing to 89,837.
7) Young Jeezy— Seen It All: Jeezy is sitting under Logic this week with Seen It All occupying #74 on the charts. The rapper moved 5,677 copies, while his grand tally is at 237,852.
8) Jagged Edge— J.E. Heartbreak II: These r’n’b vets made a steep drop this week, after sitting at #28 they’ve arrived at #76. They’ve still got some loyal fans out there, and sold another 5,493 copies of the new album. However, their total sales haven’t even broke the 20k mark yet, culminating to 18,065.
9) Lecrae— Anomaly: Lecrae continues to keep close tabs on Jeezy. The Christian rapper drops to #80 this week, with his Anomaly album selling 5,306 units. His total sales are a solid 185,058.
10) Iggy Azalea— The New Classic: With her album re-release around the corner, Iggy Azalea’s The New Classic comes in at #96 after selling 4,317 copies this week. She’s fallen several spots from last week’s #77 though. Her total sales are 401,235.
This week when it comes to singles charting on the Hot 100, Nicki Minaj's "Only" quickly rises up 11 spots to #43. Rae Sremmurd's "No Type" jump up 4 spots to #21. Big Sean's "I Don't Fuck With You" makes an 11-spot leap to #15. At #10, Jeremih's "Don't Tell Em" sits comfortably, although it's a 3-spot fall. Meanwhile Iggy Azalea's "Black Widow" single also falls to #9. Bobby Shmurda is on the rise though, with the radio-friendly version of his single "Hot Boy" rising up 2 ranks to #6.
