An 8th grade math teacher in Mobile, Alabama has been placed on administrative leave after several parents complained about the language and gang-related subject matter that was used on a 10-question quiz.
It's similar to the teacher in "The Wire", Prez, who tried to get his kids interested in math by using dice games as an example. But this happened in real life and the parents were not pleased at all.
Some of the shocking questions that appeared on the test were:
Q: "Leroy has 2 ounces of cocaine. If he sells an 8 ball to Antonio for $320 and 2 grams to Juan for $85 per gram, what is the street value of the rest of his hold?"
Q: "Tyrone knocked up 4 girls in the gang. There are 20 girls in his gang. What is the exact percentage of girls Tyrone knocked up?"
"My son, he took a picture of it in class and he texted it to me. I couldn't believe it," Erica Hall said.
"They took it as a joke, and she told them that it wasn't it a joke, and they had to complete it, and turn it in," Hall said.
Eight balls and gang-banging, that's what Burns Middle School does!
As it turns out, this is not an original quiz and versions of it have been appearing since the 1990s, with teachers in California, New Mexico and Texas getting into serious trouble for administering it.
The school has not released the name of the teacher who handed out this bizarre test, but reports suggest she was planning to retire after this year anyway. Going out with a bang.
