This was Straight Outta Compton's week, and the sales reflect it. Dr. Dre's long-awaited third studio album made an impressive number one debut, becoming the third best rap sales week of 2015 behind Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Meanwhile, Future is still profiting from the support of the #FutureHive, sticking at 7, while Drake and Meek are still pretty neck and neck, despite the public's perception of things, placing at number 10 and number 13 respectively. The biggest surprise comes with N.W.A.'s seminal album, Straight Outta Compton, returning to the charts at number 30.
1) Dr. Dre—Compton: Dre made one hell of a comeback last week, moving 276,122 copies of his new album traditionally, and 294,600 with streams. The combination of hype from the film, extreme anticipation, and the overall quality of the album made it one of the year's best sales weeks in rap.
2) Future—DS2: Future Hendrix is down from number 2 last week, but still holding a top ten spot at number 7. This week he moves 15,144 traditional copies of his album, and 31,232 with streams. He's totalling at 192,000 sold thus far.
3) Drake—IYRTITL: Drake has finally surpassed a million albums sold (1,015,000) with his "mixtape," becoming the first artist to do so in 2015. This week he moves 7,518 copies of IYRTITL (18,795 with streams).
4) Meek Mill—Dreams Worth More Than Money: While some extremists will argue that Meek's career is "over" following his beef with Drake, he's only a few spots below the 6 God, falling from 11 to 13, and moving 5,523 units (18,795 with streams). His full tally is 325,000.
5) J. Cole—2014 Forest Hills Drive: Cole remains in the running with 7,020 albums sold traditionally and 15,417 with streams. He's up from 25 to 20. He's still looking to hit the million mark at 985,000 sold.
6) Trey Songz—Trigga: Trey makes a gigantic leap from 78 to 22 this week. It's not immediately clear what caused the huge climb this week, but Trey's album, which was recently repackaged as a deluxe LP moved 9,397 copies (14,936 with streams).
7) Jason Derulo—Everything Is 4: Derulo is another huge spike on the charts, going from 55 to 33 this week. His sales are mainly through streaming, with his full weekly figure at 14,254, while traditional sales are only 3,884.
8) Tyrese—Black Rose: Tyrese had his first ever number one album a few weeks back, and his LP is still selling, with 8,461 copies moved this week (12,459 with streams). He's at 172,000 total sales.
Big surprise on the Hot 100 this week, as OMI's "Cheerleader" reclaims the #1 spot. With The Weeknd's album dropping next week, we anticipate this battle to go a little longer before it's decided who takes the top prize for the rest of the summer. Abel shows up twice more, with "The Hills" at 5 and "Earned It" at 34, but Fetty is the real champ in this department. Mr. Wap's "Trap Queen," "My Way," "679," "Again," placing at 7,8, 13, and 33 respectively. This is an impressive accomplishment in itself, but when you pair it wit the fact that these are pretty much the only four songs he's even put on iTunes, it's pretty phenomenal.
