50 Cent and Jay Z are two of the biggest rappers ever to come out of New York, so naturally they have a bit of a competitive relationship. In a soon-to-air interview with Sirius XM, 50 spoke on his output during Jay Z's retirement, as well as Jay's decision to work with UGK on "Big Pimpin'".
“Where was Jay Z from 2003 to 2006? I sold 23 million records from 2003 to 2006,” he said, hinting that Jay may have decided to bow out because Fif was in his prime. “He stopped making music. He said ‘I quit. We’ll get back to what we got later. I quit. Timeout. I’ll come back to play later.’ When he signed that Beyonce contract he was like ‘men lie, women lie, numbers don’t.’”
The Queens rapper then went on to question Jay's choice in features on "Big Pimpin'", a song that is often viewed as important, as it was rare for artists from New York and the south to work together at the time. The thing is, Fif had already worked with UGK on his 1998 mixtape track, “As The World Turns.”
“After I had got shot, Jay did "Big Pimpin” with UGK. I don’t know where he got the idea from,” he said. “You need someone to work off.”
It should be noted that "Big Pimpin'" was actually released a month prior to 50's shooting, but the question of inspiration still stands.
