Marvel Studios is one of the most successful film ventures ever with basically every film breaking a new record. The demand is huge for superhero movies and Marvel is the primary destination. However, with the recent success of Aquaman, DC has crept back into place as a contender for that top spot. The MCU is one of the most exciting things about Marvel, offering opportunities for people to see their favorite heroes work together or battle in the same film. There are plenty of easter eggs to look out for too, giving you all the more reason to buy a ticket to the next crossover. Not everybody can be Marvel though, which is something that DC learned the hard way.
According to the CEO of Warner Bros, the DC Extended Universe will soon no longer exist. Kevin Tsujihara told the Los Angeles Times that they will be focusing on standalone films from now on. "The upcoming slate, with Shazam, Joker, Wonder Woman 1984, and Birds of Prey, feels like we’re on the right track," said Tsujihara. "We have the right people in the right jobs working on it. The universe isn’t as connected as we thought it was going to be five years ago."
DC's attempts to recreate Marvel's magic have failed miserably with Justice League and Batman V. Superman earning terrible reviews. However, Aquaman and Wonder Woman had great runs at the box office so it only makes sense that the studio will be moving ahead with more of an individual focus on singular titles.
"You’re seeing much more focus on individual experiences around individual characters," said the CEO of Warner Bros. "That’s not to say we won’t at some point come back to that notion of a more connected universe. But it feels like that’s the right strategy for us right now."
