SZA To Be Honored As Rebel During Billboard's "Women In Music" Event

She will join a list of stellar female artists.

SZA will be honored by Billboard during their 13th annual Women in Music event in New York City on December, 6. The "Broken Clocks" singer will be receiving the rule breaker award, which Billboard describes as a distinction offered to "female artists who use their music and platform to defy traditional industry expectations and advance a powerful message for young people."

The CTRL artist definitely fits this profile, offering tracks with the kind of vulnerable lyrics that any twenty-something could relate to and chant in commiseration with their peers. Her style has cemented her status as the queen of TDE, earning a prime spot during the label's Championship Tour.

The vice president of content at Billboard, Ross Scarano, commented on SZA's selection as well as other honorees.

“In their respective genres, SZA, Kacey Musgraves and Hayley Kiyoko are creating necessary space for more personal, authentic expression. It makes for provocative, perspective-shifting work that is challenging traditional notions of songwriting in R&B, country and pop music. We’re lucky to have three iconoclasts in one room together.”   

SZA has scared some of her fans by announcing that her last album was indeed her last and final album. Her being pulled from the Championship Tour due to a vocal injury heightened this concern. The singer has since shared quelled her following with snippets of unreleased material
