DJ Envy brings it back to the mixtape golden-era

Those familiar with DJ Envy likely recognize him as one-third of The Breakfast Club's hosting talent, where he often plays the mediator alongside Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God. Yet DJ Envy has a long and storied history as one of New York's most respected DJs, coming up alongside fellow pioneer DJ Clue. After several tapes, Envy found himself making up part of New York's mixtape-era elite, alongside Clue, Whoo Kid, and DJ Kay Slay. His work found him landing a deal on DJ Clue's "Desert Storm" records, a label that previously housed Fabolous, Paul Cain, and Joe Budden (who would team up to deliver some underrated mixtape fire).

Now, it would appear that Envy has once again been fielding the call of the streets. Harkening back to his mixtape days, the DJ has officially previewed an exclusive drop via Instagram, dubbing the track a "New York Bop." In true throwback fashion, the single features Fabolous, who takes to the soulful instrumental with another message to the ladies. Apparently, the single was supposed to arrive on Envy's upcoming album, but it's quite possible that something has caused a holdup.

In any case, Envy is determined to let this one surface, trouble be damned.
